Open resourceLectio Divina
Lectio Divina — Latin for "Divine Reading" — is an ancient Catholic practice of slow, prayerful reading of Scripture. It is not study; it is listening. The goal is not to read about God but to encounter God through His Word.
Begin with any Scripture passage — the day's Gospel reading is a natural starting point. Allow 20–30 minutes of quiet. You need only a Bible and an open heart.
1
Lectio
Reading
Read the Scripture passage slowly and attentively. Read it again. Listen for a word, phrase, or sentence that stands out or speaks to you. Do not rush — let the text breathe.
2
Meditatio
Meditation
Reflect on the word or phrase that moved you. Repeat it gently in your mind. Ask: What is God saying to me through this? How does this connect to my life, my relationships, my struggles?
3
Oratio
Prayer
Respond to God from your heart. Speak honestly — with gratitude, sorrow, petition, or praise. This is a conversation, not a performance. Open yourself to what God is calling forth in you.
4
Contemplatio
Contemplation
Rest quietly in God's presence. Let go of thoughts and words. Simply be with God, allowing Him to work in you beyond the reach of words. Even five minutes of silent rest is transformative.
